About the Event

Light does more than illuminate a subject — it shapes meaning, emotion, and truth.

Join internationally acclaimed documentary photographers Ira Block, Robert Clark, and Roshni Khatri for an in-depth panel discussion moderated by Andrew VanWickler, exploring how light influences visual judgment, storytelling, and decision-making in real-world documentary practice.

Drawing from decades of experience across National Geographic assignments, long-form documentary work, editorial leadership, and contemporary visual journalism, the panelists will reflect on how moments are recognized under pressure, how editorial choices are made in the field, and how light is used to clarify — not embellish — the story.

Live Lighting Demonstration

Following the discussion, the panelists will lead live documentary portrait lighting demonstrations using Harlowe lights, sharing how they approach lighting in real-world, uncontrolled environments.

The event concludes with a hands-on experience, allowing attendees to work directly with the same professional lighting tools used during the demonstration.
