At Harlowe, we understand the power of lighting in creating impactful interviews. Recently, we had the pleasure of showcasing our lighting solutions during an interview with our very own CEO and founder, Helena Bian. Here’s how our three-light setup brought this conversation to life.
The Interview Setup
Key Lighting Techniques
A. Camera
The Sony A7 IV with a 24-70mm F2.8 GM lens was used for this shoot. The aperture was set to F4, balancing light intake while maintaining depth of field. A shutter speed of 1/100 prevented motion blur, and an ISO of 1000 ensured a clean and well-lit image.
B. Avant Max + Softbox
We chose the Avant Max paired with a 1x4ft quick release softbox for the key light. This combination provided soft, even illumination, highlighting Helena’s features naturally. Our softbox is designed to minimize harsh shadows, ensuring a balanced and professional look that enhances the subject beautifully
C. Avant Max + Gobo
To add depth and creativity, we utilized another Avant Max with a gobo attachment. Equipped with an effect plate, it projected an artistic pattern onto the background. This touch of creativity not only added visual interest but also reflected the innovative spirit we embody at Harlowe.
D. Mini Max + Softbox
We use the Mini Max light with a 1'x4' quick-release softbox to enhance brightness in the left shadowed area through precise lighting control. Despite its compact size, the Mini Max delivers powerful output, maintaining 30% brightness while the softbox diffuses the light, revealing shadow details with refined texture for a more polished image.
E. Beauty Dish Light
Our Beauty dish light, a Harlowe floor lamp, was strategically placed to highlight Helena’s hair. This subtle lighting created a gentle halo effect, adding dimension and ensuring she stood out against the background. The rim light is essential for achieving a polished and three-dimensional look.
E. Beauty Disc Light
Blade 10 Bi-Color & RGB Tube Light: Positioned vertically, these lights ensure that the subject is evenly lit from both sides. This setup is particularly useful for portrait photography, as it helps in accentuating facial features and adding a three-dimensional quality to the image.
